Black Princesses coach Charles Sampson says his players showed tremendous character and resilience as Ghana secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Ghana held Uganda to a 1-1 draw in Kampala to seal a 3-2 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 2-1 in Accra.
The Black Princesses faced a difficult challenge in the return encounter after Uganda took an early lead, while Ghana were also reduced to 10 players late in the game following a red card.
Despite the setback, the team held firm, with Linda Owusu Ansah scoring the crucial away goal to secure qualification and continue Ghana’s strong record in women’s youth football.
The qualification means Ghana will appear at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the eighth consecutive time.
“The girls showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience and willingness beyond the normal. I am so proud of them,” Sampson said after the game.
“This is one of the things that made me so impressed with how we qualified. This group has been tested in so many ways, and to still come out and qualify after the red card and being a goal down shows great resilience and character,” he added.
