Hurricanes sweep Flyers with 3-2 Game 4 win in OT

PHILADELPHIA – The Carolina Hurricanes waited for extra time on Saturday night to end the Flyers’ season.

Goalie Frederik Andersen #31 of the Carolina Hurricanes uses his stick to deflect the puck away from his goal.

Jackson Blake scored the dagger to the Flyers’ hearts at 5:31 of extra time to give the Canes a 3-2 win and 4-0 series win. For Blake, it was second goal of the night.

“A lot went down on that goal,” Blake said. “‘Slavvo’ (Jaccob Slavin) makes an unbelievable play, and then ‘Stanks’ (Logan Stankoven) middle line drives and pushes those (defensemen) back, and ‘Hallsy’ makes a play that not a lot of people can make there. Fortunately got the bounce and it went in.”

Carolina now moves on to the Eastern Conference Final.

The Flyers did not quietly, but the Canes certainly suppressed them.

Frederik Andersen made 15 saves on just 17 shots for the win.

“I think it was tighter than a 4-0 series,” Flyers captain Sean Couturier said. “If we get a couple bounces our way at key moments, we maybe pull out a win or two. I don’t know how many posts we hit the last couple games. We had our chances. We didn’t capitalize when we needed it.”

Tyson Foerster and Alex Bump  were the Flyers strikers.

Foerster staked the Flyers to a 1-0 lead in the fist period.

Carolina rallied for a 2-1 lead on goals from Blake in the second period, and Stankoven early in the third.

“How we’ve gone about it, we’re getting some huge performances,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “Everybody is doing it. It’s how we have to get it done. Go down the list, every guy had his hand in these two series wins.”

Bump forced extra time with his third period goal to tie the game, 2-2.

“‘Bumper,’ he makes the mistake on the second goal, then he gets the tying goal,” Flyers coach Rick Tocchet said. “He gets right back out there. That’s the stuff you want to see. He’s not on the bench sulking. He knew he made the mistake. He goes out there, bang, it’s in the net.”

Dan Vladar  made 37 saves in the loss.
