WWE fans witnessed Backlast last night, and there were a lot of questions after the show. One of the main topics was Asuka’s current WWE status, because it seemed like she was saying goodbye.
Asuka lost a match to IYO Sky at Backlash, and then it looked like they were saying goodbye. After that, the internet was buzzing about Asuka possibly leaving WWE, as many others have departed in recent memory as well.
Many fans spoke out online about Asuka, and it seemed like they were paying tribute as she exits the company. We are waiting on some sort of official word, but these are certainly indicators that the Empress of Tomorrow is leaving WWE.
Asuka is believed to be semi-retired following the match. WWE has not officially explained why so many wrestlers are suddenly sharing tributes and emotional messages about her, but the amount of respect being shown publicly has definitely caught attention.
AJ Styles admitted he doesn’t know exactly what’s happening behind the scenes, but he made it clear where he thinks Asuka belongs in wrestling history. “I don’t know the facts, but I know @wwe_asuka will be a Hall of Famer.”
Several other wrestlers also praised both Asuka and the Backlash match itself. Michin wrote, “We love Asuka around here.” Meanwhile, Rhea Ripley focused on the performance between Asuka and IYO SKY, writing, “Iyo Sky vs Asuka Phenomenal! Best of the best! You did it @Iyo_SkyWWE Proud of you!”
Natalya also praised the chemistry between the two, writing, “Iyo and Asuka had such an incredible match tonight. You can feel their passion and how both are true leaders in the ring wanting to GIVE the most to eachother.” Bayley shared similar thoughts, saying, “No matter what, where, or when…Iyo Sky and Asuka are two of the rarest wrestlers in the entire world.”
Even Ash By Elegance from TNA Wrestling joined in with her own message about Asuka’s legacy, writing, “Blessed to have been Asuka’s first match in @WWE! Honored… Legend! Sexy muscle friend.”
We will keep a close eye on Asuka at this point. Only time will tell what she does, but there is no doubt that she left a shoo-in WWE Hall of Fame career when behind her.
