Derek Chisora has revealed he is actively working to secure a rematch with Deontay Wilder later this year, following their controversial first encounter.
The heavyweight rivals first met past April in a closely contested battle that ended in a split-decision victory for Wilder.
However, the result immediately sparked debate among fans and pundits, with Chisora heavily criticising the officiating and scorecards after the fight.
Now, it appears both fighters are interested in settling unfinished business.
Derek Chisora confirms talks are ongoing for Deontay Wilder rematch
Speaking to Sky Sports, Chisora admitted discussions are already taking place behind the scenes regarding a second fight with Wilder.
“I’m working on the rematch,” Chisora said.
“The wife has given me the green light, so I will be doing the rematch.”
Although the British heavyweight confirmed that negotiations are progressing, he also clarified that the fight has not officially been finalised yet.
“I haven’t confirmed it yet,” Chisora explained.
“I have a couple meetings tomorrow and we will see how that goes.”
Deontay Wilder reportedly wants a rematch as well
According to Chisora, Wilder is equally interested in running the fight back despite being awarded the victory in their first meeting.
“He is keen because he’s upset with the result as well,” Chisora revealed.
“Yes he might have won but he’s upset, so we are going to run it back.”
The comments suggest both fighters remain unhappy with how the first bout unfolded, adding even more intrigue to a potential rematch.
Chisora vs Wilder rematch could be the final fight
The first fight between Chisora and Wilder took place in April at London’s O2 Arena and ended in a highly competitive split decision after twelve rounds.
The contest also featured controversy after Chisora claimed that knockdowns scored against him should not have counted because he believed Wilder pushed him rather than legitimately knocking him down.
Despite previously hinting at retirement, Chisora now appears prepared to continue his career for one final showdown against Wilder.
The rematch could potentially serve as the final fight of Chisora’s long professional career before officially retiring from boxing. In his long 50-fight career, he won 36 fights, out of which 23 came via knockouts, and suffered 14 defeats.
