Vaibhav Suryavanshi headlines India A squad for Sri Lanka tri-series; Tilak Varma to lead

The Men’s Selection Committee has unveiled a promising 15-member India A squad for the upcoming tri-nation one-day series in Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin on June 9, 2026. The tournament will feature India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, with all white-ball fixtures set to be played in Dambulla.

One of the biggest talking points from the announcement is the inclusion of teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who continues his rapid rise through the Indian cricket system after an impressive run in domestic cricket and IPL 2026.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi earns major India A opportunity

The selectors have rewarded Suryavanshi’s recent performances by handing him a place in the India A setup, which is often considered the final pathway before senior national selection. Reports suggest the management wants to closely assess the youngster in overseas conditions before finalizing squads for India’s upcoming tour of the United Kingdom later this summer.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter has already created massive buzz with his fearless batting style and maturity at a very young age. His inclusion in a squad filled with emerging IPL performers highlights the confidence Indian cricket has in his long-term future. Apart from Suryavanshi, the batting unit also includes exciting names like Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni and Prabhsimran Singh, all of whom have impressed across domestic cricket and franchise leagues over the past year.

Tilak Varma to lead youthful India A side

The squad will be captained by Tilak Varma, while Riyan Parag has been appointed vice-captain. Both players already possess international experience and are expected to guide one of the youngest India A squads in recent years. Tilak has previously led India A sides and remains one of the most consistent young batters in the country. Meanwhile, Parag’s all-round growth over the last two seasons has cemented his reputation as one of India’s most improved white-ball cricketers. The squad also features players who have already tasted senior international cricket, including Anshul Kamboj, alongside several IPL regulars such as Harsh Dubey, Nishant Sindhu and Suryansh Shedge.

India A will play Sri Lanka A twice and Afghanistan A twice before the top two teams qualify for the final on June 21. Following the conclusion of the white-ball tournament, India A are also scheduled to play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A in Galle.
