Paris Saint-Germain claimed a 2-0 victory at Lens to maintain their grip on first place in Ligue 1, with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ilya Mbaye securing three crucial points.
PSG arrived at Stade Bollaert-Delelis as league leaders, holding a three-point advantage over second-placed Lens. The visitors came into the match unbeaten in their last two outings, while Lens sought to close the gap at the top. Both teams entered the contest with contrasting momentum, setting the stage for an intense battle.
Kvaratskhelia broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, giving PSG an early foothold in the match. The Georgian winger’s clinical finish rewarded the visitors’ controlled approach in the opening stages. Lens responded with intensity but struggled to find their rhythm against PSG’s organized defense.
The home side created chances throughout the first half despite falling behind. Lens generated 10 shots on target and dominated possession with 38 percent of the ball. However, PSG’s goalkeeper Matvey Safonov proved commanding, making crucial saves when called upon.
Lens pressed harder as the half progressed, sensing an opportunity to equalize before halftime. Their attacking play improved, yet they could not convert their early pressure into goals. PSG maintained defensive discipline while looking dangerous on the counter-attack.
The second half saw Lens continue their search for a breakthrough, but PSG controlled the tempo effectively. The visitors’ 62 percent possession allowed them to dictate play and limit Lens’s opportunities. Despite Lens’s 24 total shots, they managed only three on target throughout the entire match.
PSG added a second goal in the 90th minute when Ilya Mbaye sealed the victory. The late strike ended any hopes of a Lens comeback and confirmed PSG’s dominance. Mbaye’s finish came after sustained pressure from the visitors in the final stages.
Safonov’s performance proved decisive for PSG, recording eight saves and earning a 9.2 rating. The goalkeeper’s distribution and decision-making kept Lens at arm’s length throughout. Zabarnyi also impressed defensively, recording three tackles while maintaining a 9.2 rating despite receiving a yellow card in the 45th minute.
The statistics reflected PSG’s control. PSG registered an expected goals (xG) figure of 0.85, while Lens created 2.51 xG but failed to convert. PSG completed 712 passes with 88 percent accuracy, compared to Lens’s 414 passes at 80 percent.
Ousmane Dembélé provided an assist for PSG and played a key role in the visitors’ attacking setup. Mamadou Sangare worked tirelessly for Lens, completing five tackles and two shots on target in a losing effort.
The victory extends PSG’s lead at the top to four points with one match remaining. Lens remain in second place but face an uphill challenge to dethrone the champions. PSG’s efficiency in front of goal proved the difference in a match where possession and shots favored the home side.
