Lorenzo Musetti’s 2026 injury issues continued at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and they will keep him out of the upcoming French Open. The Italian announced his withdrawal from the season’s second Grand Slam on Wednesday, citing a thigh injury.
Musetti was clearly less than 100 percent during his 7-6(7), 6-4 win over Francisco Cerundolo in the Rome third round. The world No. 10 managed to take the court against Casper Ruud on Tuesday but hobbled his way to a 6-3, 6-1 loss.
“After yesterday’s match, I underwent medical examinations which revealed a rectus femoris injury, requiring several weeks of rest and recovery,” Musetti posted on social media. “Unfortunately, this means I won’t be able to compete in Hamburg and Roland Garros — news that is incredibly hard to take. A huge thank you to the Rome crowd for your incredible support: that’s exactly why, despite not being 100%, I chose to step on court and give everything I had in my home tournament. I’ll keep you updated.”
The 24-year-old was a semifinalist in both Rome and Paris last year. His 2025 clay-court results also included a final in Monte-Carlo and a semifinal in Madrid, so a steep rankings decline is in progress as a result of losing those points.
