The Meaning of the Jersey Shore Blue Claws’ Alternate Cap – Dutch Baseball Hangout

I bet every MiLB fan has seen the cap below. It is one of the alternate caps of the Jersey Shore Blue Claws. In this blog post I give my take on of what I think the cap stands for.

Before the 2021 season, the club was called Lakewood Blue Claws. But in 2021, the name of t Lakewood was replaced by Jersey Shore. Since Lakewood is located about 12 kilometers (7 miles) from the Jersey shore, the name change may be a bit odd. But with the name change, some new merchandise was presented. And new merch is what (almost) every name change is about.

The Blue Claws came up with some very funny alternate cap (see photo above). Personally, I think this is one of the best caps in Minor League Baseball.

But what does the cap represent? Well, it is obvious the front of the cap shows a pair of (sun) glasses. These glasses are lying on a golden beach, represented by the yellow lid. The light blue crown represents a bright blue sky on a sunny day.

The reflections of the glasses show a ferris wheel and a rollercoaster, which you can find at a boardwalk like the one Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, NJ. In the top right corners of the glasses you can see the reflection of the sun in which the letters “JS” and “BC” are visible. No need to tell what these letters stand for.

But then, the hardest part of the reflection. The red/yellow lining at the left bottom corners of the glasses. After a lot of mulling, I came up with the idea that the red/yellow lining likely is the outside part of a beach chair.

To make a long story short, the alternate cap of the Jersey Shore Blue Claws shows a scene of a perfect day at the beach.
