Aaron Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh on 1-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers had some question marks surrounding their quarterback position for another offseason, but that has now been cleared up as Aaron Rodgers is set to return, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers agreed to terms on a one-year deal, sources tell NFL Network. Now entering his 22nd NFL season, Rodgers reunites with Mike McCarthy for one more run in Pittsburgh,” Pelissero wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

It also looks like Rodgers will be making north of $20 million on the deal as well.

“Compensation update: Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign a one-year deal worth up to $25 million, per sources. The deal is expected to include a base salary between $22 and $23 million, with up to a few million more in incentives. The deal still needs to be finalized and signed,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on X.

The Steelers placed a rare UFA tender on Rodgers, which allows him to accept a 10% raise from last season’s salary, which would pay him $15 million for the 2026 season. There was a good chance that they were always going to negotiate something else despite the tender.

This is good news for the Steelers that Rodgers is returning, and he is expected to be at voluntary offseason practice sessions that begin at the start of next week.

The Steelers played well under Rodgers running the offense last season, making it to the postseason but losing to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

It’ll be interesting to see what Rodgers can give the Steelers this season, and the hope is he doesn’t show much decline in his game as he heads into his 22nd season.
