Lots of Canadian coaches would jump at the chance. It’s high-pressure, yes, but it’s also stacked with talent and resources. Coaches are competitors; they don’t avoid hard jobs, they chase them. If you can get this group clicking, that job becomes the best in hockey.

The NHL nailed the Golden Knights with a lost 2026 second‑rounder and a $100K fine after they shut down media access postgame. It’s fair. Vegas ignored repeated warnings, kept players and most coaches off the record, and basically treated league rules like optional suggestions. Whatever drama they were mad about (suspensions, noise complaints, whatever), it didn’t justify flouting policies that exist for a reason.
Losing draft capital hurts a contender, and this one’s a self‑inflicted wound. They tossed away a useful pick for something totally avoidable, and now they look entitled rather than accountable. Tortorella’s media-bad-vibes didn’t help, but the organization owns this. Appeal if you want, but the message’s clear: no team gets to play by its own rules.
This NHL and Golden Knights Squabble is Likely Far From Over
Rielly-for-Nurse chatter ain’t dead — and it could get spicy
Sounds like Toronto and Edmonton kicked the tires on a big defence shakeup at the deadline, and David Pagnotta thinks those talks could pop back up this summer. Rielly’s name keeps coming up as the Leafs look to redo their blue line, and Edmonton’s also poking around ways to upgrade after a rough year. Swapping big-name blueliners like Rielly and Nurse would be messy (caps, no-move clauses, clubhouse vibes), but both clubs have reasons to at least consider ripping the Band‑Aid off and making a splash.
Keep an eye on San Jose, too. Pagnotta flags them as a likely spot to absorb a heavy contract if someone wants out. And don’t forget other Oilers defenders could be on the block (looking at you, Jake Walman and Emberson). Nothing’s set, but Rielly and Nurse are the offseason story to watch if either team actually decides to press the reset button.
