Jannik Sinner has defeated Casper Ruud in the Italian Open final to win his sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title.
Sinner, the only man in tennis history to achieve such a feat, defeated the former world number two 6-4, 6-2 in the Nicola Pietrangeli Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Ruud, who was tipped by Jim Courier to defeat Sinner, performed admirably throughout the first set. However, Sinner raised his level in the second set and quickly established full control of the contest.

Sinner has also now completed an historic tennis feat.
Jannik Sinner has won all nine Masters 1000 events
Jannik Sinner has become only the second man – after Novak Djokovic – to win all nine Masters 1000 events.
Remarkably, Sinner has completed the feat in 62 fewer matches than Novak Djokovic did when he achieved the monumental feat.

At 24 years old, Sinner has already won 10 Masters 1000 titles and has an 81 per cent win rate in Masters 1000 events, as reported by OptaAce.
Djokovic accomplished the feat in 104 Masters 1000 matches, while Sinner has done so in only 42 contests.
The Italian, who has now won 34 consecutive Masters 1000 matches, will have the opportunity to win his seventh consecutive Masters 1000 title when he competes at the Canadian Open in July.

- Madrid: 2026
- Rome: 2026

Winning the Italian Open will surely go down as one of the proudest moments in Jannik Sinner’s career so far, as he has become the first Italian Open Men’s Singles champion in 50 years.
Adriano Panatta, the only man to defeat Bjorn Borg at Roland Garros, defeated Guillermo Vilas 2–6, 7–6, 6–2, 7–6 to win the 1976 title.
Sinner will hope to complete the ‘Career Grand Slam’ in Roland Garros next month, and he is most certainly the favourite to win the title following his triumph in Rome.
The 24-year-old has now won 29 consecutive matches on the ATP Tour, and looks set to continue his dominance for the foreseeable future.

Jamie Murray on the ‘problem’ ATP stars face when playing Jannik Sinner
“That’s the problem or the challenge of playing Jannik,” the seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion [pictured below] said while commentating for Sky Sports on Sunday.

“Jannik’s level is so high that it rarely… well, his floor is so high, that’s the thing. If you let up for a minute or two minutes, or two or three points, you lose your serve, you lose the set, it’s gone.
“And I think, the form that Sinner’s in, he’ll be very happy to have got through that first set and you know he’ll be a big favourite to go on and win this match with only one set more to go for him.”
Sinner will now look ahead to Roland Garros, where he is the clear favourite to win the title.
Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner’s main rival on the ATP Tour, will not defend his title after suffering a wrist injury at the Barcelona Open in April.
With Alcaraz unable to compete in Paris, who will challenge Sinner for the title?
Could a combination of Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Joao Fonseca, and Alex de Minaur beat Jannik Sinner?
He’s just too good!

Will Novak Djokovic claim that elusive 25th Grand Slam title he so desires?
Those two players appear to be the main contenders alongside Sinner, who will begin his Roland Garros campaign during the week beginning May 24.
