IYO SKY and NARAKU shocked wrestling fans when they officially announced they were married — and now SKY is revealing why the couple finally decided to make their relationship public after keeping it private for years.
On May 17, 2026, SKY took to Twitter and confirmed that she and NARAKU, formerly known as EVIL in NJPW, had officially tied the knot. The announcement came during a massive week for Naraku, who recently made his WWE in-ring debut on the May 12 episode of WWE NXT.
Now, while speaking to Tokyo Sports, SKY explained that the couple previously felt no need to publicly discuss their relationship because they worked for separate wrestling promotions and maintained completely independent careers.
“Until now, we were both in different rings, and we were both independent as wrestlers and superstars, so we didn’t think it was necessary to reveal our private lives.”
However, according to SKY, things changed once they both officially became part of WWE. She explained that now working under the same company banner made the timing feel right to publicly acknowledge their relationship as husband and wife.
“Now that we’re both members of WWE, and are colleagues in the ring, or rather, in the same company, I thought it would be great if everyone could find out that we’ve become husband and wife.”
The original announcement from SKY also reflected heavily on their shared wrestling journey from Japan to WWE, with both stars now reaching the same global stage together after years of working in different places.
Naraku’s WWE debut week has already been one of the biggest transitions of his career. After officially arriving in NXT, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion quickly established himself as one of the brand’s newest featured attractions under his new WWE identity.
Meanwhile, SKY continues to remain one of WWE’s biggest stars in the women’s division, making the marriage announcement even more notable for fans following both careers.
Bottom line: IYO SKY says she and NARAKU kept their relationship private for years because they worked in separate promotions, but now that both are officially part of WWE, they felt it was finally the right time to publicly reveal they are husband and wife.
Do you think WWE could eventually turn IYO SKY and NARAKU into an on-screen pairing, or should they keep their relationship completely separate from storylines? Leave your thoughts and feedback below.
