Paul Wight just gave fans a hilarious behind-the-scenes look at what WWE pyro is really like for wrestlers standing near it. According to the former Big Show, those explosions are no joke, and he admitted they have scared him badly enough multiple times that he nearly peed himself.
Speaking in a video published on the Sky Sports YouTube channel, Wight explained that even experienced wrestlers still get caught off guard by pyro blasts if they are distracted backstage or near the entrance area.
“Yes, I personally have almost peed myself several times on of my own pyro back in the day.”
Wight said the problem usually happens when someone is talking and not paying attention before the pyro suddenly explodes. He then explained just how loud the blasts really are inside an arena.
“Especially if I’m having a conversation and not paying attention. I’m up next, and the pyro goes off. Gets me every time.”
“Oh, it’s super loud. It’s basically like a cannon blast going off right under you.”
Wight added that wrestlers normally get warning signs before pyro is fired, including flashing lights backstage, but things do not always go according to plan. That led to the funniest part of the story.
“But sometimes the light doesn’t work, and you’re running your mouth, not paying attention. Then all of a sudden—bam—it goes off. You’re like, ‘Ah, great. I just tinkled.’”
Pyro has become one of the signature parts of wrestling entrances for decades, especially in WWE, but Wight’s story proves the people closest to it are not always prepared when those explosions hit.
Which wrestler do you think had the most intimidating pyro entrance ever, and would you be able to stand next to that kind of explosion without jumping? Drop your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
