The independent wrestling world is mourning the loss of Michael Blake Whitehead, better known to fans as MB Funk. News of his passing began spreading online after multiple people within wrestling shared tributes and condolences on social media.
WrestleArts in Indianapolis confirmed the news while remembering MB Funk for the person he was outside the ring as well.
“WrestleArts sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the beloved Michael Blake Whitehead, professionally known as MB Funk. MB had such a kind soul.”
Wrestler, manager, and commentator Phil Stamper also reacted to the loss and revealed that Whitehead had apparently passed away in his sleep. Stamper continued by talking about MB Funk’s growth in wrestling and the impact he had on the people around him.
“I’m a bit numb right now. My friend, Micheal Blake Whitehead aka MB Funk, apparently passed in his sleep last night.”
“It was always great seeing you and see you constantly improve. You have so many people who love you and will miss you.”
MB Funk was best known as one-half of the tag team “Funk N Fresh” alongside IB Fresh. He competed throughout the Midwest independent wrestling scene, including appearances for Midwest Championship Wrestling and Pro Wrestling King PWK.
