The World No. 1 produced a composed and classy performance in the final to claim his sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 trophy.

In doing so, Sinner joined Novak Djokovic as only the second player in history to complete the Career Golden Masters by winning all nine Masters 1000 events.

It was a fitting end to a dominant clay swing for Sinner, who overcame early pressure from Ruud before taking control with his trademark baseline depth and precision. Recap, match stats and highlights below.

Jannik Sinner produced a champion’s performance to win his first Italian Open title, defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in the final on Campo Centrale.

After a slightly slow start where Ruud took an early 2-0 lead, Sinner settled into his rhythm and took control with his trademark depth, precision, and variety. He broke Ruud at 4-4 in the first set with a brilliant backhand winner and sealed the set with a love hold.

In the second set, Sinner broke immediately and maintained control throughout, despite a brief scare at 4-3 when he missed a smash to face break point. He saved that and closed out the match clinically at the first opportunity, lifting the trophy in front of a jubilant home crowd

The win is a big milestone as Sinner is the first Italian champion in Rome since Adriano Panatta in 1976 (50 years). He has completed the Career Golden Masters (winning all 9 Masters 1000 titles) and won his sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title. extended his Masters 1000 winning streak to 34 matches and swept all three clay Masters 1000 titles in a single season (Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome), which hasn’t been done since Rafael Nadal in 2010.

I didn’t really give Ruud much of a chance unless Sinner was hampered physically, but he wasn’t, and he was clearly the better player on the day, neutralising Ruud’s forehand effectively and dictating play from the baseline.

Early on, it looked like Ruud might be able to serve up some resistance as Sinner didn’t start well, and he wasn’t hitting the ball or serving that well. However, once he settled, his game got going, and it was never in doubt.

Ruud fought hard, but doesn’t have that x-factor to his game and couldn’t find answers against the World No. 1 in a decent enough final.

Sinner is on an unbelievable streak, and nobody is really close to his level. Next stop for him is Roland Garros, where he’s the big favourite.

I think this year was the 50th year since an Italian won and I am really, really happy. There was a lot of tension on both sides, it was not perfect tennis from both of us, but I am really happy. It has been an incredible past two and a half months. I try to put myself in the best possible position every time and do the best I can. Not every day is simple, but I am really, really happy.””It was physical and very tough but I am very happy. I give big thanks to my physical team I have all year long, trying to keep up my body, which is as important as the tennis coaches, so I am really happy. Sinner on his win.

I have to congratulate Jannik for his first title here. What you are doing this year is hard to describe with words. As someone who is also playing tennis at the highest level, to realise what you are doing is hard to describe. It is an honour to watch you play and to be able to share the court with you today in a beautiful arena at your home Masters 1000. Congratulations to you for making history for yourself, your country, your team. It is fantastic to witness. Ruud on the final.
