Rumor Roundup: Mick Foley’s status, Baron Corbin return, Tiffany Stratton, more!

The rumors never stop, so let’s get to what we’ve got for the day.

Top Rumor Today: Mick Foley’s status

Just a few days ago, SI brought word that AEW is interested in working with Mick Foley once his contract with WWE comes up next month. He’s been vocal about refusing to renew it due to longstanding issues with President Donald Trump and the company’s endorsement of him.

AEW would be an obvious destination for the Hardcore Legend, especially considering past flirtations. However, it would seem it’s not a lock that the two sides come to terms.

That’s the word from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, at least. He made clear he hasn’t heard of Foley being brought in just that the way everything is lining up would make sense for him to go to AEW. He’s got a lot of outside ventures he does but “I would think he would like to.”

So he’s not locked in but it would make sense if the two sides get there.

Other rumors floating around

  • F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer mentioned that Jeff Cobb (fka JC Mateo) was backstage at NJPW Dontaku. If that’s his next landing spot after being released by WWE, Cobb will need special permission from WWE in order to compete in this year’s G1 tournament, since it begins (on July 11) before the 90-day non compete window is over (on July 24). For whatever it’s worth, Meltzer believes that Cobb’s “chances of going to AEW as a star were much higher one year ago,” before he was devalued by WWE booking.
  • Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that there has been plenty of talk within WWE of Baron Corbin making his return, and a deal could very well already be done.
  • For what it’s worth, Tiffany Stratton denied rumors that a wrestler, alleged to be Giovanni Vinci, was fired from WWE due to flirting with her on her Twitch.
  • From Meltzer on WOR: If WWE hadn’t bought AAA, Cain Velasquez would have already made his return there.
  • PW Insider says that while MLW has been quietly publicly about finding a home for their TV series, there’s been “at least a few meetings with potential partners.”
