Tamim Iqbal Highlights Gambhir’s Authentic Coaching Persona

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has expressed his thoughts on Gautam Gambhir’s performance as head coach of the Indian cricket team. Gambhir, who assumed the role in July, succeeded Rahul Dravid, the coach who led the team to a T20 World Cup victory. With a notable reputation from his successful stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League earlier this year, Gambhir entered this position with high expectations and significant experience behind him.

Tamim Iqbal Talked About  Gautam Gambhir’s Role:

In Gambhir’s first Test as head coach, India dominated Bangladesh with a commanding 280-run victory in Chennai last week. However, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal believes it’s premature to assess Gambhir’s impact, noting that one match isn’t enough to fully evaluate his coaching style or long-term influence on the team.

Ahead of the start of the 2nd Test in Kanpur, Tamim Iqbal remarked that Gambhir’s true leadership qualities will emerge when the Indian team faces setbacks. He emphasized that while early successes are promising, it’s during challenging times, particularly after a few losses, that a coach’s real character is revealed.

Tamim Iqbal said, “ When you’re winning, you don’t know the real character of the man. It’s only when you lose a series, then you lose another, that the real character comes out. No doubt, he is a capable man, but it’s too early. Let India have a bad game, then we will see what comes out.”

On Friday in Kanpur, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the second Test against Bangladesh. Leading the two-match series 1-0, India fielded an unchanged lineup, maintaining their winning combination.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, made two changes to their squad, bringing in Khaled Ahmed and Taijul Islam in place of Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. The match start was delayed due to a wet outfield. India had previously secured a dominant victory in the opening Test, winning by 280 runs.
