Carlos Alcaraz announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon on Tuesday. The second-ranked Spaniard is still dealing with a right-wrist injury that he suffered in Barcelona near the beginning of the clay-court swing.
After playing one match in Barcelona, Alcaraz — who finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner in Monte-Carlo — missed the two Masters 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome. Now it is confirmed that he will be sidelined from the entirety of the grass-court season, having also withdrawn from Queen’s Club.
“My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to be able to play, and that’s why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon,” Alcaraz posted on social media. “They are two really special tournaments for me and I’ll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!”
The 23-year-old won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024 before losing the 2025 final to Sinner.
Alcaraz would have been the two-time defending champion at Roland Garros later this month. He won five-set finals against Alexander Zverev and Sinner in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
