Rolando Romero has described one half of the potential showdown between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn as “free meat”, believing that he would suffer a dislocated jaw.
‘Rolly’ defeated Garcia by scoring a sizable upset in May 2025, when a second-round knockdown contributed to his convincing unanimous decision victory.
Prior to that, ‘King Ry’ was handed a year-long ban after testing positive for ostarine, a banned substance, following his encounter with Devin Haney in April 2024.
Yet despite his majority decision victory also being overturned to a no-contest, Garcia was presented with a world opportunity last February.
This resulted in a unanimous decision victory for the 27-year-old, who scored a first-round knockdown en route to dethroning Mario Barrios for the WBC strap.
Since then, ‘King Ry’ has been heavily linked with a welterweight title defence against Benn, who comes off a points victory over Regis Prograis last month.
Despite defeating the since-retired Prograis at a catchweight of 150lbs, and having not fought at 147lbs since 2022, ‘The Destroyer’ is the WBC’s leading welterweight contender.
According to a Pro Boxing Fans interview with WBA welterweight champion Romero, though, Benn should not be mentioned in the same conversation as Garcia.
“Do I believe Ryan Garcia truly wants to fight Conor Benn, and dislocate his jaw, because Conor Benn is the easiest [opponent] in boxing? Yes. Anyone would take the free meat.”
Benn has previously failed two doping tests, like Garcia, but is nonetheless set to face the WBC champion on September 12.
‘King Ry’ revealed this information on The Jimmy Fallon Show earlier this week, telling the talk show host that their showdown will take place in Las Vegas.
