Adam Copeland says injury and film roles led to his AEW contract being extended.
Adam Copeland spoke to Clutchpoints ahead of teaming with Christian Cage to take on FTR in an I Quit match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at Double or Nothing. During the conversation, he opened up about All Elite Wrestling adding injury time to wrestlers’ contracts.
Copeland confirmed AEW added time for the months he missed due to injury and his film commitments. He joked that he’s not even sure when his contract expires.
“I broke my leg, so there’s injury time added, and I had to go film Beekeeper [2] and Percy Jackson, so [that’s] added. Anytime I have to take a break, that gets added on the back end,” he explained before continuing with a chuckle, “I’m not even sure when it’s up.” Copeland said.
Adam Copeland explains what will make AEW retirement difficult for him
During his recent interview on Westwood One Sports Night, Adam Copeland noted that his first retirement in WWE was difficult because he was forced into it due to neck injuries. However, he believes an AEW retirement down the line will be easier because he has done it before, and he can now say his body just isn’t the same as it used to be.
“For me, I already had to do it once. So, the second time it’s like, ‘Alright, I know how to navigate this. I know what to do.’ It was different then because I was forced, and I think that makes it more difficult.” Adam Copeland said. “So, I think this retirement is going to be the easy one because it’s like, ‘I got no choice, man. My body’s just saying nah. It cracks way too much. Arthritis isn’t my best friend.”
However, he noted that his love for AEW would make it difficult for him to retire. He really enjoys working for the promotion and said he will miss it when he eventually hangs up his boots.
“So it’s going to be easier this time for sure. I think the difficult thing will be that I really enjoy working at AEW. I have so much fun going to work, I will miss that. It’s like, man, I get there, and I feel like getting in a candy store,” Adam Copeland concluded.
