Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could soon be seen playing for the Indian senior team. His batting form in the India A series is expected to be monitored closely by the selectors, and if things continue the way they are progressing, he could well become a part of India’s squad for the 2027 World Cup, sources told CricBlogger.
Because of his growing popularity and the backing of major sponsors, Sooryavanshi could even be fast-tracked into the national side, source said. With enough time still left before the World Cup next year, the youngster will remain under the close watch of both the selectors and the Indian team management.
It is also understood that his international debut could happen sooner rather than later, with both board officials and selectors said to be “highly impressed” with his batting ability. The fact that he has already emerged as a threat to some of the best bowlers in the IPL continues to mesmerise the cricketing world and underlines the extraordinary talent he possesses.
“Sooryavanshi is bound to play for India in no time. The board members are all keen to see how he copes with international cricket after ruling the IPL,” a source told CricBlogger.
Whether Sooryavanshi eventually plays alongside Rohit Sharma or Yashasvi Jaiswal is not really a debate in the corridors of power right now. With time still left for the 2027 World Cup, Sooryavanshi has certainly arrived on the big stage, and Indian cricket is likely to witness more flashes of his brilliance in T20 cricket, especially with several senior stars expected to focus more on ODIs.
It is also a thing of the past if Sooryavanshi is above 15 or already over 19 became a subject of debate for many after witnessing the fearless manner in which he plays his shots. But after this year’s IPL and the way he performed in the Under-19 World Cup, there appears to be little reason to delay his international debut any longer. He is already playing against senior professionals and sending some of the best bowlers on a leather hunt with the sheer power and timing of his strokeplay.
“If Sooryavanshi continues to impress the way he is doing at the moment, the sky is truly the limit for the young sensation,” the source added.
