Phil Foden and Cole Palmer have both missed out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup in North America this summer.
The two attacking midfielders have both endured difficult seasons at club level, and Tuchel has taken the decision to exclude both from his final 26-man squad.
The German named his final squad of players for the tournament on Friday morning, with Ivan Toney, Noni Madueke and Dan Burn among the most surprising inclusions.
Central defender Harry Maguire, who has played crucial roles for the Three Lions at each of the past two World Cups but missed Euro 2024 due to injury, has also missed out on a place in Tuchel’s squad.
Instead, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah is included, alongside the likes of Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa.
Jarrod Bowen, Morgan Gibbs-White and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also been left out, with Madueke, Toney and Anthony Gordon among those included in attack.

Aston Villa pair Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins are both in the squad, with the former having been in fine form since being omitted from Tuchel’s roster for the last international break.
Veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson is also included – alongside Kobbie Mainoo – although Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton misses out.
Henderson’s former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been excluded, while Reece James, Tino Livramento and Nico O’Reilly are all included.
