St. Louis Cardinals vs Cincinnati Reds – May 24, 2026

After being rained out on Friday the Reds and Cardinals had to play a doubleheader on Saturday. St. Louis grabbed a victory in the afternoon and then Cincinnati took the night cap. After 20 innings of baseball the two are back at Great American Ball Park Sunday afternoon where the winner of the game gets the series victory.

This contest will be made up on Monday, August 17th at 1:40pm ET. It will be a part of a day/night doubleheader with the second game being played at 6:40pm ET.

Starting Lineups

Starting Pitchers

Brady Singer

The 2026 season for Singer has been very inconsistent. He’s had a few strong starts but most of his starts have seen him struggle. In three of his four starts in May he’s failed to pitch into the 5th inning. His last time out he gave up five runs in 4.0 innings to Cleveland. Cincinnati has lost all four of his starts this month.

Right-handed hitters are hitting for a solid average against him, but are showing a lot of power when they do get hits. They are making tons of contact against him, too. Lefties are hitting like Ted Williams against him, but without as many walks.

Brycen Mautz

The Cardinals are calling up Mautz today for his big league debut. The 2nd round pick in 2022 has spent his season in Triple-A Memphis where he’s kept runs off of the board at a good clip. He’s started nine games there this season but he’s only topped eighty pitches in five starts and never topped 85 in 2026. He’s given up two runs or fewer in eight of his nine outings, but has only thrown 5.0 innings or more in four starts.

The splits against Mautz in Triple-A are pretty big. Left-handed hitters have found little success against the lefty, hitting for a very low average and showing no power. They have walked at a good rate against him, though. Right-handed hitters aren’t hitting much, either, but they are hitting much better than lefties. They are walking at a high rate and are making plenty of contact against him.

News and Notes

Big performance from 2025’s 1st round pick

Out in Arizona on Saturday the Reds 2025 1st round pick, Steele Hall, had a 3-hit day for the ACL Reds in a blowout win. The 18-year-old shortstop is hitting .327/.465/.691 this season. In that same game Ryjeteri Merite, a 20-year-old lefty, struck out 11 batters. Over at RedsMinorLeagues.com we wrote a little more about each guy if you wanted to check that out.
