NWA Apologizes After Tag Team Champion Odinson’s Social Media Comments Draw Backlash

The NWA has issued a public apology after Odinson, one-half of the promotion’s Tag Team Champions, posted a social media video containing comments that were described as homophobic.

Odinson shared the video on Instagram last week, but the post has since been removed. The controversy still reached the NWA, and the company addressed the situation directly on Tuesday with a statement signed by President and CEO William Patrick Corgan. The NWA apologized for Odinson’s remarks and made it clear that the comments do not represent the organization.

“The NWA would like to sincerely apologize for the insensitive comments made by Odinson on social media. These statements do not reflect the values, views, or beliefs of the NWA organization. We do not condone hateful or offensive remarks of any kind and remain committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for everyone in our community.”

The statement comes at an awkward time for the company, considering Odinson currently holds championship gold in the promotion. When a titleholder becomes the center of controversy outside the ring, the situation immediately raises questions about whether an apology will be the end of the matter or whether further action could follow.

At this time, the NWA has apologized for the comments but has not announced any disciplinary action against Odinson or addressed the future of the NWA Tag Team Championship.

The video may be gone from Instagram, but the fallout is now attached to both Odinson and the company he represents as a champion. The next question is whether the NWA considers its public statement enough, or whether there will be consequences behind the scenes and on television.

Do you think the NWA’s apology is enough, or should the company take additional action against Odinson? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
