WWE star Rhea Ripley recently opened up about the negative impact social media can have on wrestlers and admitted she has considered deleting Twitter, now known as X.
WWE stars often face criticism, harassment, and negativity online. Many try to avoid reading comments. However, Ripley admitted that the constant negativity can still affect her.
Speaking on What’s Your Story? with Steph McMahon, Ripley explained that avoiding negative comments is easier said than done, “Yeah. I try. I try not to see a lot, but it’s so hard, you know, like we all do. It’s human nature. As soon as I click on I refuse to call it X, it’s Twitter as soon as I click on it, the whole first page is just negativity.”
McMahon responded by saying she avoids reading comments whenever possible and suggested that WWE’s social media team could help filter feedback. Ripley agreed but she wants to see genuine fan reactions.
Ripley said, “I want to see what works and what doesn’t. I want that true reaction to things because if it doesn’t work, I need to know so I don’t do it again.” The conversation later turned to how negative comments can stay with people even after they initially dismiss them.
Ripley admitted, “Literally, yeah. I feel that. This is hard. You know, this doesn’t affect me because you’re literally a very sad individual. Then you catch yourself thinking about it later, and you’re like, “Oh yeah, why am I thinking about this? Why am I giving them my time and energy right now?”
“I don’t want to. The news was great, right? I just stumbled on it. This happened. Yeah. So it’s definitely getting to me a lot lately. Yeah. And it is what it is. But it just sucks.” Ripley revealed she may need to take more drastic action to avoid the negativity altogether. “I think I just need to delete the app and then download it to post something.”
