Roma have released an official statement confirming that Frederic Massara is no longer sporting director, following senior advisor Claudio Ranieri out of the Stadio Olimpico exit.
Official: Roma part company with sporting director Massara
Massara had only been in his position for one season, joining Roma ahead of the 2025-26 season, but various reports over the last few months indicate that he, along with Ranieri, never truly saw eye-to-eye with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Gasperini and Ranieri were often publicly critical of one another in interviews and press conferences, and reports in Italy claimed that the pair had stopped speaking to each other at the club’s training ground, a situation that quickly became untenable.
In the end, Roma put their full confidence in Gasperini and decided instead to part company with senior advisor to the club, Ranieri. Now, just over a month later, sporting director Massara has followed him out of the door.
“AS Roma announces that it has mutually agreed to terminate the employment relationship with Sporting Director Frederic Massara,” read a statement on the Giallorossi website.
“The Club would like to thank Frederic for his professionalism, dedication, and contribution throughout the season. Thanks in part to his work, the Club achieved important objectives, including qualification for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League.
“AS Roma wishes Frederic all the best in his future professional endeavors.”
Massara has also had an opportunity to comment, adding: “I would like to thank the ownership for the opportunity to return to work in an environment to which I am particularly attached. I believe that this year the Club has created further foundations for a successful future, and I wish the entire AS Roma family every success in achieving new milestones.”
