Scotland are currently busy playing a home T20I tri-series involving the Netherlands and Bangladesh ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales in June-July. They even began the tournament with a thumping nine-wicket win over the Dutch Women, chasing down a 142-run target in just 14.1 overs. However, this will be their second consecutive appearance in this competition, following their maiden appearance in the last edition in 2024.

In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers 2025/26, they delivered impressive performances and earned qualification for the mega event. They are placed in Group 2 along with hosts England, defending champions New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Ireland.

After the completion of this ongoing tri-series, they are scheduled to play two warm-up clashes against the Netherlands and Pakistan.

Squad: Kathryn Bryce (c), Chloe Abel, Olivia Bell, Sarah Bryce, Darcey Carter, Priyanaz Chatterji, Gabriella Fontenla, Katherine Fraser, Kirstie Gordon, Ailsa Lister, Maisie Maceira, Abtaha Maqsood, Megan McColl, Rachel Slater, Pippa Sproul

Strength

The Bryce sisters remain the biggest strength for this side. Both skipper Kathryn Bryce and Sarah Bryce will be expected to step up. Kathryn, with her all-round brilliance with both bat and ball, along with captaincy duties, while Sarah will play a key role as a wicketkeeper batter. Apart from them, some other key performers could be Katherine Fraser, leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood and experienced left-arm orthodox spinner, Kirstie Gordon.

Notably, in the qualifiers, Fraser (184 runs in seven innings) and Sarah Bryce (168 runs in seven innings) were the most successful batters for Scotland, while with the ball, Kathryn Bryce led from the front with 12 wickets in seven innings, and Maqsood supported with nine wickets in seven innings as well.

Weakness

Lack of experience against top-quality opposition could be the biggest weakness for them. Playing against teams like England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and West Indies in a World Cup group stage will be a completely different challenge and a different level of pressure, something Scotland as a unit has not experienced regularly.

Opportunity

For Scotland, this will be their second consecutive T20 World Cup appearance. But in the 2024 edition, they lost all four of their group-stage matches and got knocked out. Hence, this time around, they will look for their first-ever win in this tournament. They will begin their campaign on June 13 against Ireland, and that could be the best opportunity for them to open their account because in the last three T20Is between these two sides, Scotland have emerged victorious every time.

Another big opportunity will be for Kirstie Gordon. The left-arm orthodox spinner represented England in the 2018 T20 World Cup and picked up eight wickets. She even played a Test in 2019. But after that, she fell into the pecking order and eventually committed her international future to Scotland once again. Unfortunately, due to a back injury, she could not play in the qualifiers, but now, she is back for the World Cup and has already shown her importance in the opening game of the ongoing tri-series with a three-wicket haul against the Netherlands.

Threat

Somewhere, over-dependency on the Bryce sisters could become a major threat to them. Although considering their overall experience, especially from playing in different franchise leagues around the world, they are naturally the key figures in this side. But in recent times, players like Katherine Fraser have started to chip in, and Scotland fans would love to see more such contributions during the World Cup.

Possible Playing XI: Darcey Carter, Katherine Fraser, Kathryn Bryce (c), Sarah Bryce (wk), Megan McColl, Priyanaz Chatterji, Ailsa Lister, Kirstie Gordon, Chloe Abel, Abtaha Maqsood, Gabriella Fontenla
