Juventus Deciding Which Cornerstone to Sacrifice

Juventus CEO Damien Comolli stated that they would likely need an unplanned sale to make up for the missing UEFA Champions League prize money and that Kenan Yildiz would stay, so they must decide which linchpin to dangle instead.

According to Sky, the top options are Gleison Bremer, Khephren Thuram, and Andrea Cambiaso, considering their valuations and the interest they could generate. The fullback isn’t as valuable as when Manchester City tracked him, though.

Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are open to letting the Brazilian defender go, in particular, given his age and some of his recent remarks. He not-so-subtly urged the team to improve, as he wants to win. Bayern Munich have been pursuing him lately, and they can offer Kim Min-Jae in return, but only on loan.

Bremer has a €54M release clause valid until August 10th. There’s little indication any team will activate it, but it sets his price tag.

Our Take on Juventus

They’ll probably have to, but a competent management would be able to achieve the same goal by cashing in well on their several misfits or less important players. Thuram didn’t finish the well because of a lingering injury, but he should be a keeper and has untapped potential, especially if the rest of the team is working. Cambiaso has been in a funk for a couple of seasons at this point, but he has a unique skillset, and there’s hope he’ll bounce back eventually. Bremer hasn’t been superb since his ACL tear, and they already need a quality center-back as is. He’s the most logical candidate, but they are still in a pickle. Plus, his departure is unlikely to fetch enough to sign two strong replacements.
