Sienna Jetha pushed second seed and top-60 junior Nina Skerbinz hard before exiting in a deciding game at WTT Youth Contender Sandefjord in Norway.
Jetha (pictured above) qualified second from the Under-19 Girls’ Singles group stage, edging through 3-2 against Fiona Overgaard of Denmark, having earlier lost to top seed Karolina Holda of Poland.
She faced Austria’s Skerbinz in the last 16 and led 2-1 before Skerbinz – at No 56 a full 520 places above Jetha in the junior world rankings – came back to win a tight match 3-2 (12-10, 10-12, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9).
Ella Pashley and Eva Eccles were unable to come through the group stage, though Eccles won one of her three matches.
In the Under-17s, Jetha again reached the Round of 16, having won her group. She again performed well in a close match but went out 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 12-10) to Yara Elbadawy of Egypt, the world No 126 junior.
Eccles went out in the group stage, while there was no joy in the Under-19 Mixed Doubles for any of the three pairs involving the English players.
