Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has provided an update on the team’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, assuring Ghanaians that the team is committed to having a successful tournament.
Speaking following a working visit from former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, Björkegren expressed optimism about the team’s trajectory.
“We will keep building, and we will do everything we can to have a successful summer in Morocco,” Björkegren said.
The Black Queens are preparing to return to the continent’s biggest stage after securing a bronze medal at the last edition. Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde and will be based in Fes for the group stage.
Asamoah Gyan’s visit is believed to have provided a motivational boost for the squad as they intensify preparations. The former Ghana captain has been actively involved in encouraging the national teams ahead of major tournaments.
Björkegren, who has overseen Ghana’s rise to third in the African rankings, is determined to lead the Queens to an even better performance than their previous bronze-medal finish.
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco, with the Black Queens aiming to re-establish themselves among Africa’s elite.
