In today’s (June 3) Canadian Daily Rumours roundup, I’m looking at three quick Canadian rumours. The Canucks are rebuilding their coaching staff and might add ex-Kraken coach Jessica Campbell. The Maple Leafs have checked the Rangers about veteran centre Vincent Trocheck after Max Domi’s surgery (and the Ben Danford chatter is kinda silly). Finally, the Canadiens look set to lock up Ivan Demidov thanks to some comfy cap room and his own wish to stay.
Canucks Rumour: Vancouver Eyes Jessica Campbell for Assistant Coach
The short version is that Vancouver has cleared house behind the bench. Now, after promoting Manny Malhotra to head coach, they’re hunting assistants. One name popping up is Jessica Campbell, who just left the Seattle Kraken.
Why it matters: Campbell would add valuable NHL experience to the coaching staff. She’s got NHL experience and could boost the Canucks’ coaching depth as they try to rebuild their identity under Malhotra.
Maple Leafs Rumour: Toronto Calls Rangers About Trocheck – Ben Danford?
With Max Domi out after offseason surgery, the Maple Leafs are shopping for a second-line centre and reportedly checked in with the Rangers about Vincent Trocheck. He’s a solid veteran option who’d plug a hole fast.
Also worth noting, speculation about Ben Danford being included in a Trocheck deal feels unlikely. Toronto has spent years developing a prospect like Danford, making him a difficult asset to move. Trocheck makes sense. Danford? Not so much.
Canadiens Rumour: Habs Set to Lock Up Demidov
Montreal’s in a pretty comfortable salary cap spot thanks to some smart extensions, and it sounds like they’re planning to use that wiggle room to keep Ivan Demidov around long-term. Front office moves have set them up to prioritize deals like this without freaking out the books.
Demidov has said he wants to stay. That makes the whole idea feel low-drama. Keeping him long-term would be a significant win for the Canadiens’ future. Locking him up would keep a promising piece in the lineup and signal the Habs aren’t just saving cap space, they’re spending it smart.
