Shubman Gill’s captaincy is winning hearts in the Indian dressing room. After the India National Cricket Team’s record-breaking win over Afghanistan, Washington Sundar has boldly compared Shubman Gill’s leadership style with Virat Kohli’s aggressive and fearless style.

India thrashed Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs inside three days in the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on June 8. It was one of India’s biggest wins in Test cricket history.

The one-off test turned into a nightmare for Afghanistan after India piled up a massive 564 runs in their first innings. Then, Afghanistan were bowled out for 152 in their first innings and were forced to follow on after falling a massive 412 runs behind.

The Afghanistan National Cricket Team crumbled once again and were dismissed for just 112 runs in the second innings, with India finishing the match on the third day.

The left-arm spinner Manav Suthar had a dream debut as he finished with six wickets in the first innings, while Washington Sundar shone in the second innings with four wickets in Mullanpur.

After India’s historic win over Afghanistan, Washington Sundar showered rich praise on Shubman Gill’s captaincy and revealed what stands out most about the young leader.

The Indian all-rounder shared that Gill’s biggest strength is his attacking approach on the field as the captain constantly looks for wickets and tries to keep pressure on the opposition batters. Sundar feels that this attacking approach has helped India maintain control in crucial moments.

The all-rounder has indirectly compared Gill with Virat Kohli as India became famous for playing bold and aggressive cricket both at home and away during the legendary captain’s era. Washington Sundar said on JioStar: “Shubman Gill is an attacking captain and is always looking for wickets.”

Washington Sundar hails Shubman Gill’s fearless captaincy

The off-spinner also lauded Gill’s ability to use his bowlers smartly. The captain has shown a willingness to make quick bowling changes whenever he senses an opportunity.

Sundar pointed out that the young Indian captain uses his bowlers aggressively and is never afraid to make changes if the team needs a breakthrough. He added that Gill always looks for solutions and tries different bowling combinations to keep the opposition under pressure.

Washington Sundar brushes aside DRS mistakes

Well, the Indian all-rounder contributed significantly to the team’s massive win over Afghanistan as he also slammed a brilliant fifty earlier in the game as well but made a couple of poor review calls. However, Sundar refused to make a fuss over his calls, saying it is just part and parcel of the game.

Sundar signed off by saying, “It’s part and parcel of the game, obviously. And we just try and go with our experiences in the past and, obviously, what our gut says at that point in time. And you’ve got to use the technology to its best. We try and use it for the best. It doesn’t happen every time, but it’s just an experience. It felt really good to contribute both with the bat and the ball.”
