Saturday 16th May 2026 saw 40 women and girls, from across the North East, having a fun-filled day at Quebec Village Hall, County Durham.

These days are designed to inspire and support women and girls starting, and continuing, to develop their enjoyment and skills in table tennis. The fun and friendly environment, created by members of Topspinners, encourages everyone to feel more confident about their progress at the table.

A mix of games, chat and lovely food ensured that everyone could structure their use of the resources and opportunities provided. Conversations about smashes, pushes, serves and kit, flowed easily throughout the day. Advice was shared;small pieces of coaching and quick demonstrations were fitted into the games when requested. Links to other clubs were strengthened and invitations to visit their venues for informal sessions were offered; and so, our network grows.

All nine tables were in constant use for four hours. Opportunities to watch how other women played inspired all ages to try something new in the positive environment of encouraging comments. Rest and refreshments were provided throughout the afternoon with pauses for a raffle of generous and luxurious donated prizes. Local businesses offered free meals and group activities, individuals made glamorous cakes and creative items, and a feast of food to meet all preferences. Funds raised will support The Alzheimer’s Society, one of our chosen charities, and contribute to Topspin’s development of the playing space.
Anyone interested in joining Topspinners’ all-women club, or Topspin mixed TTC, is encouraged to get in touch with club coach, Clare Flynn. Clare runs a number of weekly club and coaching sessions for female and male players. There are dedicated weekly sessions exclusively for female players. All sessions provide excellent opportunities and a positive environment to develop skills and techniques.
