The third entry in the series looks towards the past while promising to deliver a fresh spin on the formula that saw so many gamers flocking to its servers over the last couple of decades, potentially taking inspiration from both its predecessors.
Guild Wars 3 Release Date
GW3’s release date hasn’t been locked down just yet, but with its beta tests officially slated to begin in fall 2027, it looks very likely that its full version won’t see the light of day before 2028.

Guild Wars 3 Gameplay
ArenaNet has yet to properly showcase Guild Wars 3’s gameplay, but we do know that the title is meant to be a “modern evolution of the genre that blends rich action-combat, character building, and skill collection.”
Movement and traversal will receive special attention, with returning abilities such as gliding, riding mounts, and leaping across distances being accompanied by wall running.
GW3’s movement system “transfers your momentum between modes of travel, providing a free-form joy of movement through a world alive with adventure, according to the developer.”
Its action-RPG-inspired combat system has been designed to accommodate both controllers and keyboard and mouse, while its world can be explored both solo and alongside other players.
Deep character customization is also part of the experience, while the mention of skill collection could imply that something akin to Guild Wars 1’s ability acquisition system might be coming our way.
Guild Wars 3 Story
Story-wise, Guild Wars 3 takes place more than a thousand years prior to the events of the original game.
Set in Orr, a region of Tyria described as “a vast wilderness frontier imbued with the world’s magic,” it puts us in the role of a Vaelwarden, one of many adventurers figjting to preserve and protect the wild Vael spirits, which “embody the vitality of this lush, verdant landscape,” and Orr itself.
Guild Wars 3 Price & Platforms
- Guild Wars 3 will release on PC, via Steam its own launcher, alongside PS5.
