Connor Green and Tin-Tin Ho have found out their opponents as they bid to reach the main draw of the WTT Contender Zagreb, which starts in Croatia tomorrow.
Green (WR 158) must face a host-nation player in Leon Benko (WR 413) in the first qualifying round, with the winner to face Hungary’s Csaba Andras (WR 75) in the second qualifying round.
Meanwhile, Ho (WR 90) has a bye into the second qualifying round, where she will play Slovenia’s Sara Tokic (WR 230). Tokic won their previous meeting in a deciding game at the 2024 European Championships in Linz.
The winner of that match will meet the winner of the all-Hong Kong China clash between Wong Hoi Tung (235) and Ng Wing Lam (WR 72).
The event is strong, with four top-10 female players in the main draw, led by world No 3 Miwa Harimoto of Japan and no 4 Zhu Yuling of Macao China. Wales and GB’s Anna Hursey (WR 34) is the 13th seed.
On the men’s side, the top seed is Lin Shidong (WR 5), part of the China team which won the Men’s Team title at the London World Championships. 2022 European champion and last year’s WTT Star Contender London winner, Dang Qiu (WR 10) is the second seed.
In the doubles, Green & Ho face Croatian pair Ivan Hencl & Dora Cosic in the qualifying round of the Mixed.
Hursey is competing in the Women’s Doubles alongside Austria’s two-time European champion Sofia Polcanova. They face Zeng Jian & Ser Lin Qian of Singapore in the qualifying round.
