The Green Bay Packers opened their checkbook and made a splash on wide receiver Christian Watson, signing the former North Dakota State football star to a four-year, $110.5 million contract extension.
Watson secured a new deal with the Packers just over a year after he suffered a season-ending ACL injury that put his future in doubt.
Now, he is relishing a huge check that comes with a massive $31 million guaranteed, which ranks 30th overall among wide receivers.
Everyone seems happy that Watson signed such a huge contract from fellow wide receiver Jayden Reed to head coach Matt LaFleur, who had some kind words for the wideout on Tuesday.
Packers’ LaFleur thrilled by Watson’s extension contract
“I think he’s definitely deserving. He embodies what we want to be about,” LaFleur said about Watson, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
“I think he’s a team-first kind of guy. Never once over the course of four years have I ever heard him complain about not getting the ball. He does all the little things the right way. I think he handles himself the right way. He’s a great teammate. He busts his butt every day when he comes in the building. He does all the dirty work in the run game, so I was super fired up for him.”
Watson made a successful return to action in the 2025 season after his ACL injury and subsequent long rehab.
In 10 games played last season, Watson, a second-round pick by the Packers at the 2022 NFL Draft, garnered 611 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 35 catches and 55 targets.
LaFleur is surely expecting Watson to sustain that form, if not be better, as one of the chief downfield weapons of quarterback Jordan Love.
