After receiving criticism from the pop singer’s supporters on social media, McNutt has apologized.
Knicks Announcer Monica McNutt Apologizes to Taylor Swift After Game 4 Comments
During the radio broadcast of Game 4 of the NBA Finals, McNutt made a faux pas by criticizing Swift while not realizing that she was on the air. She called out Swift for being courtside at Madison Square Garden and cheering for the Knicks despite not being a New York fan.
“She’s not a Knicks fan, get out of here girl,” McNutt said on the broadcast.
McNutt’s comment went viral on social media, and she received criticism from Swift fans who were quick to point out that the singer had been cheering for the Knicks for more than a decade now.
In the wake of the criticism, McNutt has apologized to Swift. “Swifties, I appreciate your passion. I said what I said. Here’s the deal, if I’m wrong, I am wrong apparently because she’s got an OG Amar’e Stoudemire jersey,” she said to TMZ.
McNutt, who played basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas before becoming an announcer, added that she did not know that Swift had long been a Knicks supporter.
“I misspoke, I didn’t know. But here’s the deal. I literally just did a piece on Celebrity Row. I’ve been with this organization for five years. I know these folks. Ben Stiller and his wife, Spike Lee, Fat Joe.”
“I had not seen her here this year or last year, and we just saw her in Cleveland with her fiancé. Obviously, Travis supports the Cavaliers. She didn’t have any Knicks paraphernalia. So I didn’t know of her Knicks loyalty,” she added.

Swift first attended a Knicks game in 2014, and was also seen courtside during the Eastern Conference Finals alongside fiancé and Cavaliers fan, Travis Kelce.
She made her return to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday alongside fellow singers Alana and Este Haim, and passionately cheered for the Knicks as they pulled off a stunning comeback win against the Spurs.
