The Columbus Blue Jackets need to take note of winning next year, free agents and listening on the No. 14 pick

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: Dylan Larkin and Zach Werenski are best friends, but the Columbus Blue Jackets shouldn’t get excited about the possibility of Larkin ending up with the Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets aren’t on his list, and they are not close to being Cup contenders.

On the flip side of things, Werenski has two years left on his contract and is eligible for a contract extension next summer. The pressure for the Blue Jackets to start winning more and get back into the playoffs starts now.

GM Don Waddell has met with Werenski and they have a good relationship. Waddell has made it clear to his veterans that he is looking to add more scoring this offseason.

Waddell also needs to make decisions on UFAs Boone Jenner, Mason Marchment, Danton Heinen and Erik Gudbranson. Marchment is the most likely of the group to go to free agency.
