Jordan Kyrou could use a change of scenery … What about a move to Edmonton?
Daily Faceoff: Matt Larkin on St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou. He’s got control with his no-movement clause, but it might be time for a change of scenery for the forward. There is no guarantee that he’s moved. The Edmonton Oilers are one of the teams that should check in with the Blues.
Carter Hutton: “As the succession plan comes in, St. Louis, right now, Alex Steen takes over for Doug Armstrong. You know, Jordan Kyrou’s name was on the names to keep an eye on. It felt like he was gone. Like, what’s your take on Kyrou? Like, is he gonna stay or go, because he is an asset, and, like, in St. Louis is one of those teams that are just like, are they coming or are they going?
Larkin: “Yeah, I think Jordan Kyrou, he’s got the matching contract with Robert Thomas. I think that Thomas, from what I understand, is now less likely to go based on what was reported last week from Andy Strickland.
With Jordan Kyrou, he’s not in my top tier of guaranteed to go, because anytime a player has a full no-trade clause, he’s got enough control over his destiny that we can’t assume it’s a lock he’s going to go.
Is Fighting Disappearing From Hockey (or Just Changing)?
But at the same time, I feel like the writing was on the wall since the game in late, I think it was 2023 when Jordan Kyrou got booed by his own fans, he cried after the game. It just felt like that was a sign that this is not his long-term fit.
This season, he had a really bad year offensively. He was healthy scratched. Under the hood, was actually pretty good defensively. So it’s not like he was a total loss, but I do feel like he’s someone that could use a change of scenery.
In the three years before this one, if we look at his numbers combined, he was like top 20, 22 in goals, I think, tied with Adrian Kempe. So there’s a lot of upside to unlock.
I would love to see a Jordan Kyrou in a place like Edmonton, for example. I think he could have career-best numbers if he finds the right situation. So there should be teams calling. I just don’t think it’s a guarantee he goes.”
