Tottenham have been extremely busy in the summer transfer window and are in talks with Brighton over the futures of Luka Vuskovic and Jan Paul van Hecke.
Brighton made a £30million bid to sign Croatian defender Vuskovic, who is yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs since joining from Hajduk Split in 2023.
The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga and is already being viewed as one of the best young defenders in Europe.
Last season was his breakout year in senior football having made his full debut for his country as well as appearing 30 times for Hamburg in all competitions, 28 of them in the league.
Spurs meanwhile have submitted two bids of their own for Van Hecke, and Fabrizio Romano revealed this weekend they are in talks over a third offer.
“Negotiations are underway between Tottenham and Brighton, already two bids rejected, but Tottenham are still there,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Tottenham have an agreement with the player, Van Hecke wants to go to Tottenham, tempted by the opportunity to work with Roberto De Zerbi, negotiations are ongoing.”
Reports in the Netherlands meanwhile have suggested the Seagulls will attempt to combine the two deals, offering Van Hecke as part of talks to sign Vuskovic, but the South Coast club would still expect a significant fee alongside the Croatia starlet.

Tottenham working on deal for new midfielder – Romano
According to Romano, Van Hecke is not the only signing Spurs chiefs are working on.
Indeed, having already signed Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson as free agents, the Lilywhites want to sign Van Hecke and then add a new midfielder to their ranks.
The reporter could not name the player in question, but confirmed it is already being “worked” on despite the ongoing saga over the Dutch defender.
“Tottenham are going to be busy, and what I can tell you in addition to this, is that Tottenham are also working on midfield.
“Tottenham want to do something important in midfield, Tottenham want a new midfielder for Roberto De Zerbi, and so for sure they will be busy with several things in the next weeks.”
While Romano doesn’t name the midfielder – or multiple midfielders – Tottenham are working on, the most popular option in the rumour mill appears to be Monaco starlet Lamine Camara.
Valued at £43m, the Senegal international has been chased by half of the Premier League but Spurs are in pole position for his signature and at just 22 years of age he would represent the kind of ‘important’ long-term investment Romano is hinting at.
