Rey Mysterio Recalls Breaking The Undertaker’s Nose In Unfortunate In-Ring Accident

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently looked back on one of the most unfortunate moments of his career- the night he accidentally broke The Undertaker’s nose during a match on SmackDown.

The incident happened on the May 28, 2010, episode of WWE SmackDown. It ended up being remembered for a painful accident that left The Undertaker badly injured.

Rey Mysterio opens up about the guilt he felt after injuring The Undertaker

During a recent episode of The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast, the two legends revisited the moment and spoke about it with a mix of humor and honesty.

Undertaker jokingly reminded Mysterio about the impact the injury had on him. Even though Undertaker laughed it off, Mysterio admitted that the accident stayed with him for a long time because he had always taken pride in being careful in the ring.

“My thoughts always is, like, especially working the top talent of the company, like, concerns, like I’ve never been like stiff. I’ve always been very careful. But for some reason that one night when I wrestled him…,” Mysterio said.

The two then explained what actually happened.

According to Undertaker, it wasn’t Mysterio’s fault. It came down to timing and positioning during a move. Mysterio was performing his signature Seated Senton from the top rope.

“I think what happened is, when you came off and I threw my legs up, and instead of where normally your a** would’ve hit me in the chest, because of the angle that I was in, you just landed a little higher. And I think it was me trying to feel in the moment more so than anything,” Undertaker explained.

The result was serious. Undertaker suffered a broken nose, a fractured orbital bone, and a significant concussion.

Michelle McCool, who was also part of the podcast conversation, remembered how Taker readjusted his nose and how shocking it looked backstage.

Undertaker also revealed that the concussion affected him immediately.

“Well, the problem was, when I stood up and there were three of you (Rey). That was the problem. I was like I’m just gonna go for the one in the middle and hopefully I can catch you,” he said.

Mysterio recalled that he initially thought the match would continue as planned.

“I remember doing the Senton, and then I was going to get back up and hit the ropes, and hit you, I believe, with another one or a dropkick or something.” Mysterio said. “But then, that eventually was leading into the finish. So, we were good. I felt horrible.”

Undertaker knew exactly how Mysterio was feeling.

“I felt bad because I knew how bad you were gonna feel,” Undertaker said. “I was like, ‘Oh man, I don’t even wanna say anything.’”

McCool later reassured Mysterio that Undertaker didn’t blame him and appreciated how concerned he was after the accident.

In the end, both legends agreed that injuries and unexpected moments are simply part of professional wrestling. “It’s part of the game,” Undertaker said.
