Over the next week, Karlovac, Croatia, will play host to European baseball’s top club cup, the Confederation Cup. The event features the home team, Olimpija Karlovac, along with two French baseball nines, Lions de Savigny and Rouen Huskies, Hroši Brno from Baseball Czech, and Belgian baseball’s Brasschaat Braves. On day one, the Croatian baseball heavyweights started well in the familiar confines of 4 Rijeke (“Four Rivers”) Baseball Field, while Brasschaat earned the win for Belgium.
The tournament runs from June 15–20, with every team playing each other in a round robin, with the top two teams progressing to the championship game. The Confederation Cup is the top-ranked of four WBSC Europe cups and the second level of competition for European baseball clubs.
