Jaron Ennis has drafted in Demetrius Andrade to help him prepare for next Saturday’s showdown with Xander Zayas.

Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) attempts to become a two-weight world champion when he faces unified WBO and WBA super welterweight tittlist, Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, live on DAZN pay-per-view.

Despite Zayas predominately being an orthodox fighter, ‘Boots’ has brought in slick southpaw and former two-weight world champion, ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade to prepare for the Puerto Rican’s movement.

“It was good work,” Ennis told YSM Sports Media.

“I was in there having fun working on different stuff.

“I like ‘Boo Boo’. I like his skillset.

“In camp I want top work, so fight night can be super easy.

“I’ve been getting different work each week.

“We have tall guys, short guys, southpaws, right handers, pressure fighters, boxers.

“You never know what these guys are going to bring to the table.

“They fight this guy this way, they fight this guy that way, they might fight me a whole different way, so you’ve got to be prepared all way around the board.”

Zayas became unified world champion in January by dethroning WBA titlist, Abass Baraou by split decision in Puerto Rico.

Ennis, 28, fights for the second time at super welterweight having blitzed Uisma Lima in a round on his 154 pound debut in October.

The former unified welterweight world champion was in talks to face Vergil Ortiz Jr, but the bout collapsed with his American rival embroiled in a legal dispute with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

As for Andrade, the former light middleweight and middleweight world champion is set to end an over two-and-a-half year lay-off when he returns to action on July 24 in Connecticut against an opponent to be confirmed.

The 38-year-old Providence native hasn’t fought since a sixth round retirement loss to David Benavidez in November 2023 and is targeting bouts with the likes of Edgar Berlanga, Jaime Munguia and Jermall Charlo.
