Starting Pitchers
Chase Burns
It has been a dominant year thus far for Burns. He’s made 13 starts and in one of them he’s allowed more than two runs. That start came back on April 10th when the Los Angeles Angels hit two home runs off of him and scored five in a game that the Reds lost 10-2. In his last 12 starts he’s pitched into the 6th inning in every game, but he’s also only reached the 7th inning twice and neither of those times were in the last month.
The splits for Burns are quite noticeable. It’s not that left-handed hitters are performing all that well against him – they don’t hit for average or get on base much, but they are showing solid-ish power when they do get hits. It’s that Burns is embarrassing right-handed hitters to the tune of a .445 OPS.

Tobias Myers
A starter in the past, Myers has spent most of the last two seasons in a relief role in the big leagues with Milwaukee and now New York. He’s started two games this year and both outings saw him pitch into the 2nd inning but not the 3rd. In two of his last three games he’s faced the Reds, throwing 1.1 perfect innings on May 25th and then allowed a run in 0.2 innings two days later. He’s been in Triple-A for the last two weeks but is coming back for this game.
The splits this year are huge. Right-handed hitters are crushing him and they are walking as much as they strike out – which is not often. Left-handed hitters have one walk and 20 strikeouts while hitting .162. A third of the hits from lefties have been home runs, though – so they make them count when they do get them.
