Over the Hill demo enjoys over 200k downloads and bumper player numbers in first weekend
  • Over the Hill has reached over 200k downloads over the weekend
  • Game attains concurrent player peak of 5,954 on Steam

Funselektor and Strelka Games’ cosy off-road driving sim Over the Hill has enjoyed an incredible weekend of player engagement.

OTH’s free demo saw over 200,000 downloads on Steam, reaching an impressive concurrent player peak of 5,954 in the process. To put this into perspective, the similarly challenging and cathartic off-road driving sim SnowRunner managed 5,396 players in the same 24-hour period, and was previously reported to have been Wishlisted over one million times.

Considering the latter has reached over 20 million players during its lifespan (albeit across multiple platforms), these are incredible numbers.

The demo is still available as part of Steam’s Next Fest promotion, which got underway today, and will remain playable until 22nd June. A full release date has yet to be revealed, but it’s expected to appear on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of the year. Boxed copies of the PS5 and Switch 2 versions are also expected to be available for pre-order soon.

The game focuses on vehicular exploration, using stylised visuals and a soothing soundtrack to convey a relaxing gameplay vibe. Four-player cooperative play is also possible, both in the demo and the final release, which could well help make it the sleeper driving game hit of 2026.

A small bug-fixing patch has been released for the demo, too, with the changelog listed below.
