Frank Warren “can’t” promote Fury vs Joshua on Netflix

Frank Warren appears to have ruled out being the lead promoter for Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.

Fury and Joshua have signed contracts to fight each other in a long-awaited heavyweight battle later this year.

Debate has been swirling between Warren [Fury’s promoter], Eddie Hearn [Joshua’s promoter] and Zuffa Boxing head, Dana White over who will take the promotional lead for the mega fight, which is being bankrolled by Saudi Arabian boxing chief, Turki Alalshikh.

White has claimed he will be in charge, despite not having contracts with either man, while Hearn and Warren have both stated that the contracts rule Zuffa out from having any involvement in the show.

However, Warren has admitted that neither his company Queensberry, nor Hearn’s Matchroom – which both have exclusive broadcast deals with streaming service DAZN – can promote the bout with it likely to land on Netflix.

“We have an exclusive contract with DAZN for our UK fights,” the 74-year-old told talkSPORT.

“As far as Tyson’s fight with Joshua is concerned, that’ll be on Netflix.

“So if the fight was in the UK and it was on Netflix, we couldn’t promote it anyway and it’s the same with Eddie Hearn, he’s in the same position.

“If you remember, Eddie who is the promoter of ‘AJ’, his last fight was promoted by Jake Paul.”

Fury made headlines over the weekend after attending the UFC Freedom 250 card at the White House, where he was pictured alongside White and US President Donald Trump.

‘The Gypsy King’ teased an announcement from White regarding his future and the UFC boss said it would be announced soon.

However, on Wednesday, Fury’s manager denied an agreement with Zuffa, insisting the 37-year-old was invited by Alalshikh, who partnered with White to launch Zuffa.

Warren also asserted that the two-time heavyweight world champion remains under a deal with him.

“Tyson hasn’t signed for anybody,” he added.

“I have my arrangement with him.

“Which I’m very, very comfortable with and we have a business relationship that’s been and worked really well and continues to work well.

“I have no problems whatsoever.

Joshua will first return on July 25 against Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.

Fury, who came out of retirement to beat Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, intends to have another warm-up bout in August before finally facing ‘AJ’ in November.
