Chivu pens new Inter deal through to 2028

Cristian Chivu has put pen to paper on a contract extension to keep him in charge of Inter through to June 2028.

Chivu enjoyed a stellar first season in charge of Inter, leading them to the Serie A and Coppa Italia double after replacing Simone Inzaghi ahead of the Club World Cup.

He took charge of 58 games in all competitions, winning 38 of those (D9 L11), finishing the campaign with a win percentage of 65.5%.

Chivu became the fifth manager ever to win the Scudetto in his first season with Inter in Serie A, after Arpad Weisz in 1929-30, Alfredo Foni in 1952-53, Giovanni Invernizzi in 1970-71 (who took over the team in November) and Jose Mourinho in 2008-09.

By adding the Coppa Italia, the Romanian rewrote the record books once again, becoming the only coach in Inter’s history to win both competitions in the same year, both as a player and as a coach.

Inter scored 89 goals this season, the same number as in their previous two Scudetto-winning seasons (also in 2020-21 and 2023-24).

The Nerazzurri wrapped up their Scudetto win against Chivu’s former side, Parma, on May 3 with three games remaining.

Inter begin the 2026-27 at home to Monza.
