Joe Joyce wants rematch with world champion

Joe Joyce insists he’d relish a rematch with WBO heavyweight world champion, Daniel Dubois.

Joyce knocked out Dubois in the 10th round to become the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight champion in 2020.

Despite winning three on the bounce afterwards, the Londoner’s career derailed with back-to-back defeats to Zhilei Zhang.

Dubois has twice won heavyweight titles since defeat to the ‘Juggernaut’ and secured the WBO strap with a thrilling 11th round win over Fabio Wardley last month.

Joyce admits a rematch with ‘Dynamite’ would appeal to him, as he looks to catapult himself back into contention.

“It’s always an attractive option,” the 40-year-old told Sky Sports.

“Before I took Zhang, which was obviously a bad decision, I was WBO Interim [champion] off the back of beating Dubois and [Joseph] Parker.

“So it’s just like a bit of a mistake that I’m going to rectify now.”

The ‘Juggernaut’ looks to bounce back from consecutive losses to Derek Chisora and Filip Hrgovic, when he faces unbeaten Russian Artem Suslenkov in Moscow on July 11.

Joyce has linked up with Tyson Fury’s trainer SugarHill Steward and is aiming to secure his first victory since 2024 on the undercard of Murat Gassiev’s defence of his WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title against Tony Yoka.

“The motivation is getting the win and getting back in there and putting in a dominant performance,” he added.

“I’ve made some changes and I’m training hard and getting ready for that fight.

“It’s just boxing.

“I’ve been training, I’ve been learning this year, I’ve been putting in the work so I’m ready to show you what I’ve learned.”

As for Dubois, the 28-year-old is set to rematch Wardley later this year after the Ipswich man activated his rematch clause.

‘Dynamite’ twice climbed off the canvas to halt the 31-year-old.

Dubois bounced back from losing his IBF crown to Oleksandr Usyk, to become a two-time heavyweight world champion.
