Nick Chubb’s intriguing reaction to possible Cleveland return

Running back Nick Chubb is still without a team with just a few days left before the start of training camps. He is currently a free agent after a one-year stint with the Houston Texans.

He had a bounce-back campaign after being hobbled by major injuries in his last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. In 15 games for the Texans, he logged 122 carries for 506 yards and three touchdowns.

The 30-year-old Chubb, however, has found no takers for the upcoming season. Some have speculated that he might return to the Browns, who need more offensive firepower.

During a sports panel in Cleveland, Chubb did not shut down the possibility, as shown in the video posted by News 5’s Camryn Justice.

“Obviously, Cleveland is a special place to me. Being drafted here by Jim Brown, and my time here was truly amazing,” said the four-time Pro Bowler.

“You never know what can happen.”

The Browns drafted Chubb as the 35th overall pick in 2018. He did not disappoint, even being named to the All-Pro Second Team in 2022. By the time he left in 2025 to sign with the Texans, he was No. 3 on the Browns’ all-time rushing yards list, trailing only Brown and Leroy Kelly.

Cleveland could definitely use Chubb. Aside from his on-field talent, he could also mentor running back Quinshon Judkins, who impressed in his rookie campaign.

The Browns only averaged 97.0 rushing yards per game, the sixth-lowest in the NFL.

Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry admitted in 2025 that letting go of Chubb, a fan favorite and a quintessential teammate, was a difficult decision. Well, he now has a good opprotunity to reverse it.
