Mike James’ anticipated move to Barcelona has unexpectedly fallen through despite both sides reportedly reaching an agreement.
According to BasketNews and RAC1, negotiations have been terminated, ending what many believed was a virtually completed deal.
The collapse puts one of the EuroLeague’s biggest names back on the market.
At 35, James remains among the competition’s top players and is expected to focus on joining a club with legitimate EuroLeague title ambitions.
Barcelona must now explore other backcourt options, while James becomes one of the most attractive free agents available this summer, likely drawing interest from several contenders.
The veteran guard recently concluded a historic spell with AS Monaco, where he became the EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer, won MVP honors, and helped establish Monaco as a European powerhouse.
Last season, he averaged 16.4 points and 6.5 assists in 39 EuroLeague games, once again proving he remains one of the league’s most impactful players.
